Wedding Reception

So, I have a question. What do you think? Jared and I are getting sealed in DC on a Friday at noon. We want to have an Open House in Pennsville, NJ (2 hours north) that same Friday night. Then the next day in NYC we want to hold a reception there in Manhattan, which is another 2 hours north of Pennsville. From your wedding planning experience, do you think that is reasonable for both us and guests? We will have people coming from all over the east and probably some outside the family coming in from the west. People are invited to both the Open House and Reception. They choose. Now, discuss, discuss.....

you could make it happen, but at least from my experience, you are going to be exhausted! i remember thinking the next day all i want to do is sleep and lounge, and especially with all the excitement from the wedding to traveling for the reception the first night, you may just want to lounge and hang out with you handsome new hubbby...

I agree that it's tough to have two receptions so close together. It depends on how much you are involved in each reception.

We had a week of cheap honeymooning close to home and then on the way back, we did the second one. I totally needed that week to recover. Also, for family, are we just carpooling north along with you? Are we supposed to be at the Pennsville one?

The new plan is to consider a SMALL gathering of sealing family and MD friends to come next door to the stake center an hour or two after the sealing. This will give people we know from old MD days a chance to honor Amanda and Jared and we all can have a bite to eat. VERY INFORMAL, except we all stay dressed up. Then, Amanda and Jared can go off and honeymoon. The next evening, Sat, night, the 20th, we have an open house in Pennsville, NJ and we all attend. Then, after the real honey moon, a week later, or more, we have a get together in NYC, and whoever is still around will come! We were thinking our church building in the basement... What say you ladies and gents who have been through this? Remember, this is all on approval by the bride and her groom! Love, MOTB (Mother of the Bride)
